Yesterday evening, 2 people were killed in a car accident on U.S. Highway 6&50.  The accident occurred at around 7 p.m. near 20 1/2 Road, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Police reports indicate that the victims were traveling in a car in the westbound lanes of the highway, in front of a pickup truck.   When an 18-wheeler from the eastbound lanes of the highway turned left across the westbound lanes in front of the car, the driver of the car braked to avoid a collision.  The pickup truck’s driver was unable to brake in time and rear-ended the car, pushing it into the semi-truck.

The two people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Last week, 1 person was killed and another was injured in a hit-and-run car accident near Delta,  Colorado.

The accident occurred in between Delta and Hotchkiss on Highway 92 last Tuesday, according to the Colorado State Patrol.  A pickup traveling westbound was forced off the highway to avoid being struck by a white sedan that crossed over from the eastbound lanes into oncoming traffic.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 67-year old man from Paonia, suffered minor injuries in the fatal car accident.  His 66-year old wife was seriously injured.  She was taken to a local hospital where she later passed away from the injuries she incurred in the hit-and-run accident.

This Saturday, 2 people were killed in a tragic car accident on Highway 94 near Colorado Springs.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the accident occurred at around 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of the highway and Antelope Drive.  A 2007 GMC Sierra pickup truck was reported to have crossed over from traffic traveling eastbound into the westbound lanes of the highway.  The pickup truck veered head-on into oncoming traffic and struck a 2002 Jaguar.

The 40-year old driver of the Jaguar was pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident.  A 40-year old passenger in the Jaguar suffered minor injuries in the accident and a 19-year old passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries.

Currently, police do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the fatal car accident.

Yesterday, a Texas billionaire visiting Colorado was killed in a tragic car accident in Aspen, Colorado.  77-year old Charles Wyly of Dallas was known for his family’s two ranches and philanthropic work.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Wyly was traveling on Airport Road in Aspen when his Porsche Targa was struck by a Ford SUV on the driver’s side of his vehicle at around 11 a.m.  Wyly was attempting to turn left onto State Highway 82 when the accident occurred.

Paramedics rushed Wyly to Aspen Valley Hospital where he later passed away.  Police do not suspect alcohol or drugs were involved in the fatal car accident and continue to investigate.
