Today, Subaru issued a recall of many of their new 2012 model vehicles including the 2012 Outback, Impreza, and Legacy.  The company says that only about 3,000 of these recalled vehicles have been sold already.

Investigators found that the vehicles have an excessive  and unsafe amount of brake pedal travel.  The car manufacturer is waiting on master cylinders to repair the defect in cars that have not been sold yet.  Sales on these vehicles are currently stopped.

Michael McHale, a Subaru of America spokesperson, stated, “Some customers said the brakes didn’t feel right.  The pedal travels farther than it should.”  The company has not received any reports of accidents involving the brake pedal defect.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the vehicle involved in a fatal pedestrian accident in a parking lot at Chapel Hills Mall was unoccupied.  Originally, police were investigating the accident as a hit-and-run.

The accident occurred last week when an SUV hit two people outside of Dillard’s.  The two victims were taken to a nearby hospital where one — an 82-year old woman — later passed away.

Further investigations into the accident have led police to believe the vehicle was a runaway, possibly with a mechanical defect.

Sgt. Darrin Abbink stated, “Usually when we see this, we do not see somebody getting killed.  We usually see a car that rolls back and hits a pole, a mailbox, or another car and causes some denting.”

Officials are currently unsure of how fast the possibly defective vehicle was traveling when the accident happened.

Yesterday, Dodge issued a voluntary recall of 242,780 Dodge 1500, 2500, and 3500 model Ram pickup trucks.  Officials say the vehicles have a defective tie rod in the front steering system.

The defective tie rod can break and throw off the trucks’ steering and direction.  The part is most likely to break when performing high-stress maneuvers like sharp turns.  In addition, the tie rod is more likely to break if a vehicle’s alignment is off.

The recalled vehicles were sold by the car manufacturer between 2003 and 2011.  Dodge says that dealers are now offering inspections of the vehicles’ tie rods.

There has been one report of injury caused by the Dodge Ram’s defect.
