Denver soldier makes remarkable recovery from brai…

A Denver soldier, Joel Hunt, suffered serious injuries in 2005 when he was hit by a bomb blast during his third tour of duty in Iraq. The explosion left him with a traumatic brain injury (TBI), confining him to a wheelchair for an entire year after he returned home. Since then, Hunt has tried to be an inspiration to others who have suffered similar fates. Hunt has battled post-traumatic stress disorder and is still partially paralyzed in one leg. Despite his situation, he remains optimistic. He recently ran a 5k in Denver and a local organization, Operation TBI Freedom, has helped him learn to ski. In fact, Hunt now plans to compete as a skier in the 2014 Paralympics. He has heard too many stories of soldiers returning from Iraq and feeling useless. His goal is to show them that they are still valuable people who have a lot to offer. Recovering from a traumatic brain injury is not easy, and it can also come with costly medical bills.
