Study shows that accidents triple in number when combined with pedestrians with headphones
Posted on Friday, March 23rd, 2012 at 3:58 pm
In the past six years, the number of motor vehicle accidents involving pedestrians wearing headphones has tripled.
Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine that conducted the study also found that 75 percent of the time, these accidents resulted in the death of the pedestrian. The injuries sustained in these car crashes were severe, due to the inattention of the pedestrians.
Pedestrians are urged to keep their headphones out of their ears until they are able to safely enjoy the music. These small ear buds could lead to distractions, and the inability to hear oncoming vehicles.
