A recent report from the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality along with hospital records have shown that there has been a significant increase in dog bites in the past 16 years and experts are concerned.
Each year, nearly 4.5 million people are bitten by a dog and about 866 are sent to the hospital a day to be treated for a bite. Out of the 866 sent to the ER, 26 of them have had serious wounds and needed to be admitted to the hospital. Experts and researchers are now trying to determine what has caused the increase.
A small spike in the number has been distributed to a population increase in both humans and dogs, but it does not determine why the numbers have almost doubled.
