Deficit-reduction deal could increase SSDI reviews

According to The Wall Street Journal, the federal government’s deficit-reduction deal which places spending caps on many federal agencies could actually result in an increase in Social Security Disability Insurance reviews by the Social Security Administration.

A lack of federal funding to the SSA has prevented the agency from reviewing many SSDI applications and removing current benficiaries of SSDI that are no longer eligible.  Currently, the SSA has a back-log of around 1.4 million.

In 2002, the SSA was able to conduct around 850,000 continuing disability reviews.  This number decreased to about 200,000 in 2007 and has only increased slightly since then.

However, because the deal exempts the SSA from a spending cap, the agency will be able to continue to allocate funds towards SSDI reviews without being capped.

If you or someone you love is seeking legal representation to help them file to receive SSDI, contact the Denver Social Security Disability Insurance attorneys of Hull & Zimmerman, P.C. by calling 866-385-3505 today.
