FDA recalls frozen oysters shipped to Colorado

This week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of frozen oysters shipped to Colorado from Korean Farms in Santa Fe Springs, California.  Officials say the product has been linked to three cases of a norovirus in Washington.

The recalled product had the brand name, “Assi,” and was also shipped to buyers in Washington, California, Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Utah, and Texas.  Korean Farms reports that their product was mostly sold in Asian grocery stores in 3-pound bags.  The oysters have a “best if used by” date of “2013.02.232.”

The three people who have been infected with the norovirus were found to have eaten the frozen oysters in a restaurant in Washington.  The oysters were tested by the FDA and found to be positive for norovirus genotypes I and II.
