Denver court charges Jensen Farms owners for selling contaminated cantaloupes

Brothers and Holly residents Eric and Ryan Jensen, owners of Jensen Farms, are facing a misdemeanor charge and were indicted on Thursday, September 26 in a U.S. District Court in Denver after allowing cantaloupes, obtained from a processing plant in Granada, that were allegedly contaminated to get into the U.S.’s food supply in 2011.

These dangerous cantaloupes resulted in at least 33 deaths and 147 hospitalizations in 28 states, data from federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed.

A trial is set to commence on December 2 and was ordered by Magistrate Judge Michael Hegarty. Prosecutor Assistant U.S. Attorney Jaime Pena estimated the trial to last two weeks.
