Nebraska family awarded $1.8 million in birth inju…
A family in Nebraska was recently awarded $1.8 million in a birth injury lawsuit. A jury in the state decided to award $1.2 million in compensation for past and future medical expenses related to a 3-year old girl's birth injuries and $600,000 for her suffering last week. The 3-year old girl was born in June 2008 through a vacuum extraction delivery. According to the lawsuit, the vacuum was not necessary to deliver the child and the decision to use it by staff at the hospital was negligent. The vacuum caused the girl's shoulder to become stuck behind her mother's pelvis. Doctors pulled on the girl's head to help her out, causing serious nerve damage and permanent injuries. The girl's left arm is now paralyzed. If your child was injured before, during, or shortly after their delivery due to a doctor's or hospital's negligence, contact the Denver birth injury attorneys of Hull & Zimmerman, P.C. at 866-385-3505 to learn more about how we can help you.
Cerebral palsy lawsuit ends in $144 million verdic…
Last month, a birth injury lawsuit in Michigan resulted in one of the largest verdicts for a case involving cerebral palsy in the history of the U.S.The lawsuit was filed against Beaumont Hospital and a doctor at the hospital. In the case heard in Oakland County Circuit Court, the mother of a 15-year old girl with cerebral palsy argued that her daughter developed the condition as a result of brain damage caused by the hospital's failure to call for a C-section delivery. When the girl was born, she weighed 10 pounds and 12 ounces. The suit claimed that the doctor should have realized that a C-section was necessary due to the child's large size. Furthermore, the doctor's failure to call for a C-section caused the child to suffer a fracture to her clavicle, multiple hemorrhages, and permanent brain damage. The jury found the hospital negligent and issued a $144 million verdict. The award will allow the girl's family to pay for her round-the-clock care for about 77 years. If your child was injured before, during, or shortly after their delivery, contact the Denver birth injury attorneys of Hull & Zimmerman, P.C. at 866-385-3505 to discuss your case with one of our lawyers and learn more about your rights.
