Denver news anchor bit by dog on air…  

KUSA Denver anchorwoman Kyle Dyer was attacked by a dog on air yesterday during a live segment about a rescued 3-year old Argentine mastiff. Dyer is known for being an animal lover, even hosting a weekly segment that features animals from the Denver zoo called "Kyle's Kritters."The story featured the dog, a firefighter who had recently rescued the animal from a freezing lake, and its owner. During the segment, Dyer bent down to get closer to the dog, and it bit her in the face.People on the news set said the dog had been fine interacting with everyone before the segment. The animal was quarantined after the attack, and its owner has been cited for a violation of leash laws and for not having the proper vaccinations for his dog. After a 10-day evaluation, officials will determine whether the dog can return to its owner.Paramedics rushed Dyer from the studio to the hospital for treatment. The news anchor's injuries needed overnight reconstructive surgery. Mail carrier sues dog owner over dog bite…  

A mail carrier from East Hartford, Connecticut has filed a lawsuit against the owner of a German Shepard that bit her on the leg.According to the lawsuit, the letter carrier was delivering mail at a home in East Hartford when the dog broke through the home's screen door, ran after her down the street, and bit her twice on her left thigh.  The attack occurred in August 2010.Court documents filed at the Hartford Superior Court state that the mail carrier suffered from "severe fright, terror and emotional distress" after the dog attack.  Additionally, after the incident, the plaintiff resigned from her job.The woman is seeking compensation for medical expenses and lost earnings. Pueblo woman attacked by 2 dogs…

Denver has tied with Philadelphia for eighth place on the list of cities with the "top dog attacks." The list is compiled by the U.S. Postal Service on the number of attacks on letter carriers each year.Houston is the top city for dogs who attack mail carriers each year. Last year, there were 62 reported attacks on mail carriers. Experts worry over increase in dog bites…  

A recent report from the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality along with hospital records have shown that there has been a significant increase in dog bites in the past 16 years and experts are concerned.Each year, nearly 4.5 million people are bitten by a dog and about 866 are sent to the hospital a day to be treated for a bite. Out of the 866 sent to the ER, 26 of them have had serious wounds and needed to be admitted to the hospital. Proponents for Pit bulls hit City Hall last week in order to get rid of the ban that has been on Pit bulls in Denver for the past two decades.A Pit Fest occurred and was reported on last week. This included a concert and a fundraiser, and features Shorty Rossi who is an actor and star of Animal Planet's Pit Boss that is  a show devoted to bringing pit bulls back to the mainstream of mutts. A study done by the University of Colorado School of Medicine found that children are the most likely victim of dog attacks and that the face is the most common place to be attacked. Also, it was found that many of the attacks are done by the family dog.According to the Center of Disease Control, nearly 4.5 million people are attacked by dogs each year and 885,000 require some type of medical attention.The study looked at 537 children that were involved in dog bite attacks between the years of 2003 and 2008. It was found that in a majority of cases, the child knew the animal either through family or friend.
