Shortfall in SSD funds expected to grow in 2017…
According to the Congressional Budget Office's 2011 Long-Term Projections for Social Security report, the shortfall in Social Security Disability Insurance will experience growth beginning in 2017. Disability Insurance payments are predicted to account for about 18 percent of the Social Security Administration's payments in 2011."As more members of the baby-boom generation (that is, people born between 1946 and 1964) enter retirement, outlays will increase relative to the size of the economy, whereas tax revenues will remain at an almost constant share of the economy. As a result, the shortfall (in the Disability Insurance (DI)) fund will begin to grow around 2017," states the report.Furthermore, officials involved in creating the report hope that their findings will convince members of Congress to avoid cutting funding to the SSA. They predict that the issue will not be addressed until around 5 years in the future if and when the problem becomes more serious.Contact the Denver Social Security Disability attorneys of Hull & Zimmerman, P.C. at 866-385-3505, if you or someone you love needs assistance filing for or appealing for disability benefits from the Social Security Administration.
Deficit-reduction deal could increase SSDI reviews…
According to The Wall Street Journal, the federal government's deficit-reduction deal which places spending caps on many federal agencies could actually result in an increase in Social Security Disability Insurance reviews by the Social Security Administration.A lack of federal funding to the SSA has prevented the agency from reviewing many SSDI applications and removing current benficiaries of SSDI that are no longer eligible. Currently, the SSA has a back-log of around 1.4 million. In 2002, the SSA was able to conduct around 850,000 continuing disability reviews. This number decreased to about 200,000 in 2007 and has only increased slightly since then. However, because the deal exempts the SSA from a spending cap, the agency will be able to continue to allocate funds towards SSDI reviews without being capped. If you or someone you love is seeking legal representation to help them file to receive SSDI, contact the Denver Social Security Disability Insurance attorneys of Hull & Zimmerman, P.C. by calling 866-385-3505 today.
May is Disability Insurance Awareness Month…
May is recognized as Disability Insurance Awareness Month. Individuals with a long-term disability that prevents them from working and earning an income can be eligible to receive Social Security Disability Insurance.SSDI is offered through the Social Security Administration and is funded through FICA taxes. People who pay their FICA taxes and experience a disability that prevents them from working for 12 months or longer can receive insurance through the administration. Monthly benefits are provided to disabled workers until they are able to return to work.Financial director for the nation's leading Social Security disability representation firm Paul Gada states, "People experiencing a disability that prevents them from working will be placed in a weakened financial situation, so it's critical they apply for SSDI as soon as possible."Contact the Denver social security disability lawyers of Hull & Zimmerman, P.C. at (303) 423-1770 today, if you or someone you love needs assistance filing for social security disability insurance.
