Your Wrongful Death Lawsuit Questions Answered…
Junior Seau’s brain to be donated for resear…
NFL Hall of Famer Junior Seau was found dead in his home last Wednesday. He is alleged to have committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest. He is at least the third former NFL star to have done so in the past year. This tragic event comes during a time when the football league is facing lawsuits for not warning its players of the dangers of concussions. Other players who have committed suicide in the past year have been said to suffer from depression and mental problems. The lawsuits claim that these suicides may be connected to concussions the players suffered while on the field.Seau's family has released a statement saying that his brain will be donated to science for the betterment of other athletes who may be under similar circumstances. They do not believe concussions necessarily played a role in his early departure.Junior Seau was inducted into the Hall of Fame during halftime of a Nov. 27, 2011 game between the Chargers and the Broncos. Our condolences go out to Seau's family.

Woman to receive $65,000 after wrongful death of d…
A Denver woman hired a cleaning service to clean her home for three hours, and when she returned home from running errands she found that the cleaning professionals had left, and her dog was dead underneath her dining room table. The woman claimed that her dog had somehow exited the home, and was then hit by a motor vehicle. The cleaners were aware of the fact that the dog was injured, and allowed the canine to just curl up in an area of the home, and slowly die.A wrongful death lawsuit was filed against the cleaning company, and a Denver judge sided with the dog's owner in the case. The judge deemed that the cleaning company was responsible for the negligent death of the dog. A verdict of $65,000 was announced in the case. This verdict may be classified as one of the largest payouts in the case of a dead animal, showing that family pets are worth more than what they were purchased for.
Issue with reverse 911 system causes 3 deaths in C…
On March 26, a controlled wildfire broke loose of it's boundaries and caused damage to several homes, killing three people. The fire was started by the Colorado Forest Service, but quickly left the contained area.Several concerned residents started calling 9-1-1 in order to learn if they were in danger. The dispatchers relayed the most recent information they had to the individuals on the other end of the line. Three people lost their lives because of that information. They were told that their homes were not in the path of the wildfire, and that they would be safe at home.Moments later, their houses were engulfed in flames. The reverse 911 system that informs people in harm's way malfunctioned that day, and did not notify every person on the list. Only 88 percent of the individuals were told of the dangers. This functioning issue with the system caused those residents to lose their lives. The families of the deceased could consider filing a wrongful death lawsuit in regards to the circumstances surrounding their passing.
Wrongful death suit continues against State Patrol…
Earlier this month, a judge at a federal court in Colorado allowed a wrongful death lawsuit filed against a Colorado State Patrol sergeant to proceed to trial. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a 31-year-old man who was shot by a state trooper.According to the suit, in the summer of 2010, the victim was returning home to his apartment from a trip on the Colorado River. In an attempt to back his jet ski into his driveway, the watercraft fell into his neighbor's yard. The lawn suffered minor property damage, and the neighbor called police to report the incident. After moving the jet ski into his driveway, the victim went into his apartment. When police received the report from the neighbor, they assumed that the man may have been drunk, and two troopers and the sergeant went to his apartment without a warrant in an attempt to test his blood alcohol level. The 31-year-old refused to open the door completely because the police did not have a warrant, and the troopers began to try to break the door down.As the victim was peeking around the door to speak with police, one of the troopers sprayed him with mace. While the other trooper went around the back of the apartment, the door opened a little more, and the trooper shot the man. The judge determined that because the sergeant did not do anything to prevent the troopers from doing what they did, he "directly facilitated and contributed to the warrantless search and use of force."
Wrongful death lawsuit filed against Jensen Farms…
This month, a man from Kansas City, Missouri filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Jensen Farms. According to the lawsuit, the man's 92-year old father died as a result of eating cantaloupe that was contaminated at the farm in Holly, Colorado. The 92-year old initially filed the lawsuit when he became sick with listeriosis from the fruit. However, after his death, the injury case was changed to a wrongful death suit. The lawsuit was filed in federal court, and includes the fruit's distributor, Frontera Produce, as a defendant.146 people across the country contracted listeriosis after consuming cantaloupe from Jensen Farms last year. At least 31 people died from the illness. The 92-year old was in the hospital for 5-weeks with listeriosis linked to cantaloupe from Jensen Farms before his passing.
Parents file wrongful death lawsuit against social…
The biological parents of a 7-year old Colorado boy who died of starvation and dehydration have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against 2 social workers with Denver Human Services who were involved in his case. The defendants attempted to have the case dismissed, but a judge recently denied the request and ruled that the suit will proceed. The boy was living under the care of 2 foster parents when he died. Officials took him to the hospital after finding him locked in a closet and he passed away soon after. The foster parents were found to have "restricted access to fluids and caloric intake" and were convicted of homicide.8 months after the boy was placed in foster care, workers at his elementary school reported to the case workers that he was being abused. The social workers dismissed the allegations of abuse, stating that the accusations were "unfounded." At least 4 other reports of abuse were sent to the case workers and were not investigated, according to the lawsuit.
Listeria outbreak death toll rises…
Last week, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the death toll related to the recent listeria outbreak from contaminated cantaloupes has risen.25 deaths reported to the CDC have been linked to listeriosis and the consumption of Jensen Farms' recalled cantaloupes. The recall was issued last month, but the bacteria can remain in a person's system for several weeks after it is ingested.6 of the deaths linked to the cantaloupes were people in Colorado. Across the U.S., 123 cases of listerisosis have been linked to the contaminated product.Investigators have been at Jensen Farms looking for the cause of the contamination. They believe conditions at the farm and equipment are to blame. Several wrongful death lawsuits against the farm and its distributor have already been filed on behalf of the victims of the listeriosis outbreak.
