Colorado man awarded $20.6 million in suit against Toys ‘R Us

A jury in Massachusetts recently awarded a Colorado man $20.6 million in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Toys ‘R Us over the death of his wife in an accident involving an inflatable slide.

According to the lawsuit, the man and his wife were visiting family in Massachusetts when his wife was killed in an accident involving a Toys ‘R Us pool slide.  The woman was injured as she was going down the slide and it collapsed, causing her to hit her head on the edge of the pool.  At the age of 29, the wife and mother became a quadriplegic and needed life support.  Her injuries were so severe that she eventually had to be taken off of life support and she passed away.

The Toyquest Banzai inflatable pool slide involved in the accident was sold by Toys ‘R Us in their store and online.  The product was imported from China and lawyers argued that it did not meet U.S. regulations concerning pool slides.  Last week, the Salem Superior Court found Toys ‘R Us liable for the woman’s death and awarded her family punitive and compensatory damages.
