Paint company pays $1.65 million to fire victims’ families
Last month, a paint company out of California accepted guilt in the death of 5 people working at a power plant in Colorado. In a plea agreement, the company admitted to violating U.S. workplace safety regulations, and agreed to pay the fire victims’ families $1.65 million.
The tragic incident occurred in October 2007, when workers were cleaning a paint sprayer with a flammable solution inside a pipeline in Georgetown, Colorado. The paint sprayer caught fire, and the workers were trapped inside the tunnel.
OSHA issued a statement after the plea deal was announced, stating, “Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families affected by this needless tragedy. It never should have happened.”
